Observation of Court Hearings in the Syunik Region
A project supporting judicial reform and the development of civil society in Armenia focused on strengthening youth engagement in public life and building competencies in court monitoring.
Activities under the Resilient Syunik Initiative
The project was a continuation of activities carried out since 2021 in cooperation with a partner organisation – the Helsinki Association for Human Rights (HAHR) in Yerevan.
The actions were implemented mainly in the Syunik region as part of the EU Team Europe – Resilient Syunik initiative, which supports the sustainable socio-economic and institutional development of the area.
Under the current edition of the project, activities included:
-
strengthening the competencies of young people in court monitoring and human rights, as well as increasing their engagement in public life in the Syunik region,
-
continuing court hearing monitoring by young volunteers in four regions of Armenia: Lori, Shirak, Syunik and Yerevan,
-
digitalising the monitoring process and increasing the use of digital data in HAHR’s analytical and reporting work – with expert support from the Court Watch Poland Foundation (FCWP).
Exchange of experience and skills development
In September 2024, Court Watch Poland organised workshops in Warsaw for HAHR representatives, dedicated to modern tools for court monitoring.
Summary of cooperation and presentation of results
The project concluded four years of cooperation between SFPL and HAHR, aimed at equipping the partner organisation with the skills and tools necessary to independently conduct court monitoring in Armenia.
The findings from the observations were presented in November 2024 during a meeting attended by institutions involved in the judicial reform process in the Republic of Armenia.
