Support for victims of repression by the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, human rights organisations, independent educational institutions, pro-democratic groups, and freedom of expression initiatives remains one of the key priorities of the Solidarity Fund PL.
Solidarity with Belarusian society
Following the mass protests of 2020, the independent democratic movement in Belarus has been nearly wiped out. The banning of civil society organisations and independent media has forced many of them to suspend their activities, go underground, or relocate – primarily to Poland, Lithuania, Georgia, and, before the outbreak of full-scale war, to Ukraine. Repression targets not only activists and journalists but also cultural figures, representatives of national minorities, and relatives of those engaged in pro-democratic work. Fundamental human rights are being violated, and anyone not cooperating with the regime cannot feel safe.
The Belarusian authorities continue to restrict access to independent sources of information. Independent media outlets have been dismantled, journalists persecuted, and society subjected to state propaganda and disinformation. Even simple actions on social media – such as liking or sharing content deemed “extremist” by the authorities – can lead to repression.
Areas of support
In response to these challenges, for over a decade we have focused on three key areas of support:
-
protecting human rights and supporting democratic principles,
-
strengthening independent media and ensuring access to reliable information,
-
building civil society and developing high-quality social services.
Our efforts reflect lasting solidarity and a firm commitment to jointly building a free, democratic, and just Belarus.
